Congressional Republicans love to claim that Social Security is in crisis and about to go bust.
That's a lie. Social Security has a $2.8 trillion surplus. If no changes are made, it can pay out every benefit owed to every eligible American for the next 18 years.
If we get rid of the cap that exempts millionaires and billionaires from paying their fair share, we can not only extend the life of the Social Security trust fund, but we can expand benefits.
Our seniors paid into a system for their entire working lives. Now they find that the benefits they receive back don't meet basic expenses. Tell politicians we need to expand social security, not cut a lifeline that seniors depend on.
Tell Congress to defend the earned benefits of millions of Americans. Expand, don't cut Social Security.
